Cranksgiving New Bedford
Cranksgiving New Bedford is a charity event that combines a bike ride, games, and a food drive to support people in need this holiday season!
What is it?
Bike riders participate in a chill potato pace community ride, while purchasing food items at stops along the way. The food is then donated to the South Coast LGBTQ+ Network. This 10-mile community ride is free, open to the public, and cosmically inclusive! Riders can expect a conversational pace, mild hills, and musical accompaniment to maintain positive vibes.
How it works
Participants bring a bike, a bag, and lock, and use the cash they bring to buy food at grocery stores. $20 is the recommended minimum but you’re welcome to bring as much as you like. We’ll then return to the Co+Creative Center to box up the food to deliver.
When is it held?
10:00 AM Saturday, November 16, 2024
Where do we start?
Co+Creative Center, 137 Union Street, New Bedford, Massachusetts
How did this start?
Cranksgiving began in New York City in 1999. It has since spread to other cities in the United States and other countries. It was later adopted by the New Bedford Starchasers in 2019 supporting the United Way Hunger Heroes, Take Back NB community fridge, and the South Coast LGBTQ+ Network. Since then, the Starchasers have raised thousands of dollars and collected hundreds of pounds of food for people in need throughout Southeastern Massachusetts.
What do I get out of this?
All participants will receive an official Cranksgiving New Bedford pin, sticker, and spoke card!
The first 20 participants through the door will receive an official Cranksgiving 25th Anniversary fender, produced through a collaboration between Ass Savers x Cranksgiving, and designed by local artist, division admiral of the New Bedford Starchasers, and owner of Artemis Cyclery, Civi.
Prizes will be available for the following categories:
Best Costume
Most Cargo Carried
Most Festive Bike
and MORE!
